post war

last evening
i sat down
on a warm summer terrace
with my decaf iced frappe
and my bestie
and we made love to each other
through thoughts
through dreams
through our relationships

it's really a beautiful thing
to crack my heart open
for her
and feel the breeze
shine some sunlight on it
have the hummingbirds
humm
have the bees
buzz
have the trees
sway
have the night
fall upon us
as easy as dusk turns into dawn

and as my heart
breaks
open
for her
she hums her a tune
she sings her a song
to help her silences
not feel so silent
to help the lump in her throat
wash away
to reflect her love
back

and then we suited up
with our collective
fullness
for the task at hand
pouring
our support
out for our fellow
lover
who decided
enough was enough
and that she is getting
back to the one
she was meant to love
at this time

herself.

and tears went from flowing
to not
and awkward laughter
turned into truth
and the trifecta
once again
reigns
love upon each other
for that
is what it's for
love to reign
upon
each
other.

and in my post war
i am grateful
for it all
the war
the struggle
the mistakes
the heavy-heartedness
the sighs
the long and lonesome nights

it woke me up
to see the beauty that is my life
it woke me up to the
blessings
it woke me up to
what has been here all along

me.

and that even if i'm not okay sometimes
i will be okay most of the time
and my lovers
[in all senses of the word]
love me for exactly who i am today
they don't love
the potential
they love the present
and that my Mom and Keith will always love me
for it all.
because they were the ones
that taught me
to strive
to give
to never give-up
to hold out
to look up
at ferris wheels
to play that game where
you look for animals
that have the general look
and shape of clouds
to sometimes cry
and to always
remember
the one that i came here to love.....

myself.

Rick Owens

Rick Owens -
(born 1962). is an American fashion designer hailing from California, celebrated for his avante-garde and subversive eye. Since 2003, Rick Owens has lived and worked out of Paris. - wikipedia

guys......drooooooooool.  the furniture.....not so much, but, the jacket - MOS DEF.  and those boots.  oh ma gawd.  i think i'm having a hot flash.

Calvin Klein interviews Marc Jacobs...

okay, anyone who knows me, knows that i luuurrvvee Marc Jacobs.  i love him for so many reasons.  here are a few.
he has had some major road bumps in his careers.  in fact others might refer to them as failures. an ill-advised gunge based collection designed for Perry Ellis that flopped.  HUGE.  this is the biggest one.  but mostly i love him because i feel as though he is the Andy Warhol of our time.  of my time.  his vision is uncompromising.  his creativity is shameless.  he is unapologetic with his artistic direction.  and he has a way of communicating subtly and not-so-subtly irony and satire that i have not seen.  it is unparalelled.  he communicates all of this through his collections.  he is truly incendiary.
now, onto the interview.  in September's issue of Harper's Bazaar, Calvin Klein interviews Marc Jacobs.  what i liked about it was that he is so honest.  he doesn't ever sound pretentious.  and his life and career is completely based around his needs and desires.  he talks about his relationship with food and exercise.  which used to be a bone of contention for him in his younger years.
furthermore, he comments on his roles in all three of his empires; Mar Jacobs, Marc by Marc Jacobs and the creative director of Louis Vuitton.  most notably, that his role with Louis Vuitton is somewhat of an alter ego.  that while in Paris, he slips himself into a different mind set and how the landscape and his surroundings help him do that.  like actors and actresses do with submerging themselves into roles.  in someone else's head.  and what gets them to that place.
but the most inspiring part to me, is that he never wants to be defined.  in the way that all fashion wants to define fashion designers.  his mind and heart are open to anything that may tickle his fancy.  he talks a bit about taking something that he hates (Brocade in this case), and using it to his advantage.  overcoming adversity despite our baggage.  despite our prejudice.  he is a truly beautiful, iconic person.  his ideas.  his mind.  his lack of care for others.  we could all learn a little bit from the man who has Spongebob Squarepants tattooed on his body.  among other things.....
here is the full article

"what I prefer is that even if someone feels hedonistic, they don't look it. Curiosity about sex is much more interesting to me than domination. ... My clothes are not hot. Never. Never." - Marc Jacobs wikipedia

September Issue

so - as far as i can tell - the 'it' shoe of the season would be these tricked out Balenciaga shoes.  the colour blockers dream du jour.  or shall i say du season.  a sweet transgression from the archetype of what an oxford should look like.  what i think is king about them, is that they look deconstructed.  the lack of flow makes them flow in a weird way.  like that whole, it's so ugly it's cute thing.  except this ugly pug turns out to be a cool few thousands of dollars.  you got some of that just lying around for your vying affection of that shoe fetish?
another thing that i love about the 'September Issue' is the launch of the new ad campaigns.  the above is a Tommy Hilfiger one.  dubbed the 'ultimate tail-gate' ad.  a fictitious family all dressed in dapper Tommy clothes.  now,  i'm not the hugest Tommy fan per se, but i respect the direction that they are going in.  kinda like the poor man's Ralph Lauren.  or even the mid-range Michael Kors.  cu dos Tommy marketers.
Pierre Hardy for The Gap.  orgasmo.  seriously lovers.  check ca.  these babys are beauties.  the rumblings are that they will be available in stores sometime in October starting at a cool $150.  i peeped these bad boys in the 'Black Magic', black pant campaigns that they did.  furthermore, i like that mass retailers are starting to understand vision and artistic direction can make you a dollar...rather than just homogenized styling and colour palettes.
look at this gorgeous androgyny at its best.  her name is Lara Stone.  and trust me babies, she is bodacious.  she is considered a 'full-figured' model.  see picture below.  baby steps i suppose.  and Calvin Klein is starting to hit his stride.  his silhouettes are just starting to be refined and articulate exactly what his heart wants to say.  at least that's what i see.  he struggled in his freshman and sophmore years, but now, experience has aged him in the most beautiful way.  including his choice in models and simplicity.  which is what Calvin Klein is based on.  simplicity and artistic direction above all else.  forget the corny jean ads.  rise above and claim your space on that sophisticated bench of the fashion of the ready to wear variety.

as far as Lara Stone goes.....there is this big uproar about gap-toothed models resurging into the limelight.  as if it needs to be discussed.  Lauren Hutton carved that piece of land with her bare hands.  and no one can touch her.  she is gorgeous.  even now.  especially now.  and thank god for imperfections, or what they consider imperfections.  speaking of, there is also an article in Vogue's September Issue about bodacious models.  again, do we even have to discuss this?  as far as i'm concerned, it's been a long time coming.  let's re-define beauty people.  respond to it.  why?  because you can relate....just as much as i can.  and i do and have for a while.  teach your little ladies that anorexia is not the ideal......ok, i'm letting this post get away from me.  you get the point.

Lauren Hutton

Lara Stone
so, there's your daily dose.  of me and my thoughts.  sorry for my absence lately.....but falling in love can be a little time consuming.....much love.  xoxo

Hunter

when i don't know what to wear, i wear these.  with pride.  they feel like home.  i think i was wearing boots in utero.  seriously.  my mother can attest to that.  i have the most incredibly affinity for boots.  all kinds.  but, they really, always, fit my personality.  i am a boot gal.  don't get me wrong - i LOVE to throw on a pair of heels with the best of them....but really, my 'go-to' footwear choice will always be boots.  long live the most casual boot i have ever owned and loved; Hunter Originals.  they're nothing fancy, but they are me.  plain old rain boots that compliment most, and flatter some.  when i envision my outfits, i imagine what they would look like with these boots.  always.  obsession noted.
these babies came to me about a year ago....via present from Mumsie for my birthday.  yay for me!  they are a twist to the old fav's, but a little more sleek.  plus the lining is much warmer than the originals.  neoprene.  they are such a dream. ~heart~

wedge love just in time for Fall

Bebe Hannah

i could really go on forever.....but i will leave it at that for now.  enjoy kiddies....have a shoegasm for Mama.

pretty gifts from amazing friends....

my dear friend gave me this gift yesterday.  goo.  except the one she gave me is black, not white.  there's nothin' like a little Marc by Marc Jacobs to brighten someones day.....except maybe the Sangria that ensued therein after the gift giving....ugh.  rough morning.  i'll deal.  it was a sweet gesture and an even sweeter evening...thank you doll!  much love.
....now, if she may stumble upon this in the sample room.....i would mos def sell my soul or at least bribe her to gift it to me a little...ha ha ha

Play:  Post-War - M. Ward

i wish it would rain
and take away this heavy-hearted feeling
that has taken shape in my heart
i feel disconnected
from my friends
from my family
communicating via
emails
broken text messages
misshapen phone calls
messages
passed on through
messages
feelings conveyed
through online social networking
websites
notes written
on very small parchment
given to fireflies
to carry
the messages of love
like a stork to
a new mother

listening to elliott smith
dreaming of a
different world
where my head
wouldn't trip me up
where my hardships
felt easier
where
all the people that i love
surrounded me
more often then
they do
now
a world
where
my hurt feelings
didn't navigate
my every decision

heavy hearted
heavy hearted
heavy hearted

CHRISTOPHER LEE SAUVÉ

'LONG LIVE MCQUEEN' - a part of Christopher Lee Sauve's T-Shirt Collection.  Dreamy.  i wanna.....

New York-based artist fashion impresario CHRISTOPHER LEE SAUVÉ is a momma’s boy. Whether he’s drawing inspiration from punk nuevo Brooklyn street kids, or his idol Andy Warhol, this Canadian-born designer always looks back to his mother for inspiration. “When I was a child, in the early 80’s, she would create her own over-sized, silk-screened, bold-graphic t-shirts,” recalls the artist from his Brooklyn studio, “she would cut and rip the neck and wear them as elegant evening dresses. It was revolutionary.”

Gabriella Marina Gonzalez: Victorian Sci-Fi Surgery

sunday morning

they sleep
comfy and warm under the covers
her and him
the two that keep my world
on it's axis

today
i listen to Billie Holiday
and think that there is not another
time
that i have felt so
at peace
inside
my heart

stillness

peace

she fought
and she cried
and she pleaded
for some space
inside the bars
made of ivory
and coral

space
to expand
and contract
breath and exhale
some convex to her concave
interlaced
fingers
and toes
hair let down
socks off
slumber

and the change came on
like the night
slow
and easy
but about as
subtle as a wrecking ball

just in time
for my fist to
release its
tension
in order to open up

to hold
someone else's
hand

isn't she lovely....

"Go home, take a paper bag, cut some eye holes out of it. Put it over your head, get undressed and look at yourself in the mirror. Really evaluate where your strengths and weaknesses are. And be honest." - Joan Harris from Mad Men
i was on the bus this morning and saw this girl from the bus heading towards the metro.  'i got a thing for them big body benzes it dulls my senses' she had bootay for miles.  and it was fantastic.  everything about her ensemble was immaculate.  the blouse.  perfect.  the trousers.  the colour palette.  even down to the nail polish and the navy jacket she has draped over her arm.  impressed.  i was.  really refreshing way to start off the week.  gorgeous skin and pleated trousers.  a woman after my own heart.

so, there's this place
that i used to go
to escape my own head
to conquer my demons
and you were always there
to listen to my thoughts
and wax poetic about sex,
boys and all things complicated

and not so complicated

i found myself here.
inside these rooms
inside your safe space
the one that you provided for
us all
to cry
to laugh
to drink
down the wine and the spirits
that had been cultivated here.
and were necessary
......
at the time

and now that you are gone
i am not sad to see you go
i am happy
for the new space that you
are creating for yourself
and i am thankful
that i had the chance
to experience
the music of friendship
the music of the kindred
the music
was bold as love
just as you
are.

much love.

Mother Mother

ok fine - i know, i know that this band is brilliant.  and i am so slow on the uptake.  but this band is brilliant.  Mother Mother
Vancouver Canada’s Mother Mother are generating much recognition with their original approach to modern pop/rock music; a beautifully bent portrait of vocal harmony, clever, offbeat lyricism, and dynamic instrumentation. Their sound is best encapsulated on their sophomore album, O My Heart, produced by Howard Redekopp (Tegan and Sara, The New Pornographers).

With considerable accolades and success in their native Canada as well as substantial headway made in the US, in 2010 Mother Mother turns their sights onto the UK and Europe with a spring release of O My Heart on Last Gang Records (ADA/Warner). They will also be recording the follow up to their acclaimed sophomore album with a tentative fall release in North America. 2010 promises to be a fantastic year for Mother Mother.

that is an excerpt from their press kit on their website.  hit them up on twitter too.  to say that this band is a breath of fresh air would be redundant....but as you all know, i have conviction and powers of persuasion.  seriously.  give this band a listen.  i promise, you won't be disappointed.  the perfect mix of indie rock with a serious edge. the vocals and guitar riffs are cutting and run deep.  won't go comparing them to bands, 'cause i just think you will get the wrong idea.  perfect solo driving music or getting ready to go out music.  and y'all know how much of a music snob/elitist i am.  so just do it!  love this band.  and they are from my hometown.  Van-city bitches.  these are the bands that i dream about....and so will you.
