Angell Woods

'Those who seek beauty, find it.' - Bill Cunningham

Tonight I watched a documentary called 'Bill Cunningham New York'.  It's about a street photographer in New York City.  Pretty self explanatory.  Inspired individual.   He tapped into the true tone of his heart.  Part of what I responded to the most about him and his character, was that he treats everyone with the same respect.  He is painting his masterpiece through the frame of a lens.  His canvas is everyone who enters his line of sight.  Regardless of class, social standing, sex, religion and sexual orientation.

In a time, where, I generally start to re-evaluate and take stock...this film created a nice space where my chest of ribs could breathe.  Expand and contract.  I was completely drawn out of my little tragedies and stepped into someone else's shoes.  It was amazing.

The above pictures were taken at Angell Woods.  A weekend excursion for my dog and I.  She loves it there!!!  It's a little piece of heaven about 20 minutes out of the city.  And I have been wanting to get out there for a while to take some shots.....and I have always thought it be a good place for a fashion photo shoot.  One day.

These days, in the city, the season change is palpable.  I am in full on home nest mode.  Craving hot apple spiced cider.  And I have been listening to a lot of music.  Feist just released a new album, Metals.  My favorite song (and by favorite I mean, it's been on repeat ever since I got it in my hot little hands) is Anti-Pioneer.  What drew me in at first was the bass drum/stunning guitar lick in the beginning, and this one lyric where she bends the tone in her mouth - like she is about to take in a mouthful of honey being fed to her by her lover.......'Two years before..'  That bend has been in my head.  My dreams.  My step.  And what is intertwined, subconsciously, is the change.  Color change over time in landscape.  The changing numbers in months passing.

Below, the first video is a teaser......and the second is the whole song.  Lastly, the lyrics....cause, babies, it's all about the lyrics.

Take a listen.  Imagine yourself in a log cabin......curled up in front of the fire.  Sipping on a hot beverage of your choice with the back drop of snow falling, cradling you into winter.

start with colours
they always get away with attitude
but they'll try to convince you of your mood
and what you want they'll give it to you
but it's only therapy, that's all they do

and for a year she was anti-pioneer
singing sappy songs
about what went wrong

two years before, but even now
when the false is true
when i call me you

when the flag changes colours
the language knows
when the month changes numbers
it's time to go
when the flag changes colours

the language knows
when the month changes numbers
it's time to go

anti-pioneer then
anti-pioneer then
anti-pioneer then
anti-pioneer then

and for a year she was anti-pioneer

they passed her off too late
to change her future's fate
but even now when the false gets true
and living colours seem possible to you

when the flag changes colours
the language knows
when the month changes numbers
it's time to go

when the flag changes colours
the language knows
when the month changes numbers
it's time to go home
