sometimes being a part
of you
means, leaving the bigger part of me

and other times
being
a
part
of me
means keeping
the smallest piece of you

and these pieces mean so much
and they mean so little
but, all together
they fill my heart
between its empty parts
like the water poured into the jar full of stones

each piece
different from the other
but a place in my heart they have burrowed

and even if they travel
from head to toe
they always end up
on the aorta at 6pm
when they need rest or a break from the deep dark soul
which is never the destination.....but sometimes where destined

my hands about to throw themselves up
over my head
as i approach the high point of the wheel
wherein i can see all
laid out before me
wherein i can marvel in the beauteous nature
of all the morsels in treasures
that i have gathered
so far.....

so, little pieces
and big
attune yourself to my song
harmonize me on the wings of maybe
your color is not quantified by the stake of your claim
you still shine just as bright
when held up in front of the light

i have sratched our names into the tree
and carry the forget-me-not flower in my lapel
and bid a grateful, gracious farewell
to the lovers that loved me
back to life
when i couldn't ask
and
when
i didn't need to

my voice trembles an 'i love you' forevermore
whilst my saddle shines in the traveling sun
